Construction Equipment Towing in Maryland: What to Have Ready

Construction equipment that will not start, is stuck on a job site, or has to move between sites needs a tow or haul planned around weight, width, tracks versus tires, and whether the machine can roll onto a deck. Make the site safe, note the make, model, and approximate weight, and call (240) 780-8691. Priority dispatches heavy-duty towing and recovery, Landoll trailer towing, and RGN heavy haul across Maryland 24/7.

First steps when a machine is down or stuck

Job-site recoveries go faster when the area around the machine is clear and you already know what will not move.

  • Shut the machine down if it is safe to do so. Chock or block it on a grade.
  • Keep workers and other equipment out of the recovery path and away from soft shoulders or excavations.
  • Do not drag a tracked machine across finished pavement or soft ground with another machine unless your site supervisor has already approved it.
  • Write down make, model, serial or unit number, approximate operating weight, and whether it is on rubber tires or tracks.
  • Note any attachments still on the machine (bucket, forks, boom position) and whether they can be removed or stowed.

What to tell dispatch

The first call decides wrecker versus Landoll versus RGN, and whether a winch-out is needed before the haul.

  • Location. Job-site address, gate or entrance to use, and any low wires, soft ground, or narrow access.
  • Machine type. Excavator, skid steer, loader, dozer, backhoe, roller, telehandler, or other. Tracks or tires.
  • Weight and size. Approximate operating weight, and whether it is over-width or over-height with the attachment on.
  • The problem. No-start, broken final drive, stuck in mud, needs a site-to-site move, or accident damage.
  • Can it roll? Whether it can drive or be winched onto a deck under its own tracks or wheels.
  • Destination. Another job site, your yard, a dealer, or a repair shop.

Landoll, RGN, or wrecker?

Not every construction move is a hook tow. Many machines need a flat deck.

  • Landoll. Hydraulic tilt deck for equipment that can be driven or winched on. See Landoll trailer towing.
  • RGN. Removable gooseneck for heavier or lower-clearance loads that need a deck. See RGN heavy haul towing.
  • Wrecker / winch-out. When the machine is stuck, off the road, or has to be pulled to firm ground before it can load. That is core heavy-duty recovery work with Owned Equipment and Wreckmaster-certified operators.

Permits, corridors, and diesel on site

Oversize moves may need permits and a planned route. Tell dispatch if the machine is over-width or over-height so the haul is planned correctly. Mobile diesel help for a construction truck or support unit on the same site is available through our mobile diesel mechanic and truck road service. Corridor work often runs on I-95, I-695, I-70 west to Monrovia, and local job-site roads in the service area.

Construction equipment towing FAQ

Can you haul an excavator or skid steer?

Yes. Tell dispatch the make, model, approximate weight, tracks or tires, and whether it can roll onto a deck. Many excavators and skid steers move on a Landoll or RGN.

The machine is stuck in mud. What should I say?

Say it is stuck, how soft the ground is, and whether other equipment can reach it. Dispatch plans a winch-out to firm ground before the haul.

Do I need permits for an oversize machine?

Tell dispatch the width, height, and weight. If the move needs permits or a special route, that is planned on the call before the truck rolls.

Can you move equipment between two job sites?

Yes. Give both addresses, gate access, and any low wires or soft ground at either end.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept EFS, ComChek, and T-Check. Quotes are free.

Are you available 24/7?

Yes. Dispatch is 24/7 for recovery and hauling when a machine has to move outside normal site hours.
